Part of the complete guide: The Complete Guide to Cash-on-Delivery Selling in Pakistan

A delivery that arrives in two days is fine if the customer expected two days. The same delivery is a complaint if they expected one. Setting expectations is often more important than raw speed, and it costs nothing.

Give a window, not a promise

Say the order will usually arrive within a certain period and that traffic, weather or address problems can add time. Same-day delivery is the service Shipify aims for; delivery times are always estimates, and it is wise to describe them that way to your customers.

Tell them what you need from them

  • A phone number that will be answered.
  • A full, clear address and a landmark.
  • Someone available to receive the parcel and pay the amount in cash.

Confirm before dispatch

Repeat the delivery details and the total amount in your confirmation message. This is the moment to fix problems. See how to confirm cash-on-delivery orders.

Share tracking when you have it

When a delivery has a tracking link, send it. Customers who can see progress call less and wait more calmly. How to track an online order explains what the customer sees.

Communicate delays early

If something goes wrong, tell the customer before they ask. A short honest message with a new estimate keeps trust. Silence makes people assume the worst.

What to do when the customer is not available

Sometimes the person who ordered is out when the rider arrives. Agree a plan in advance: a neighbour or family member who can receive the parcel and pay, or a time when the customer will be home. If a delivery attempt fails, call or message the customer soon after and agree a new time instead of leaving it open. Repeated failed attempts cost money and patience on every side.

What a clear delivery message contains

  • The product and the total to pay at the door.
  • The delivery address as you understood it.
  • The expected window, described as an estimate.
  • A reminder to keep the phone on and have cash ready.

Keep a record

Note what you promised. If the customer later disputes it, you can check the facts and answer calmly.
